People that learn more than one language during the “sensitive period” of development use the same Broca’s area to think about the two languages. The people that don’t, use two different areas and it’s like one language is always battling the other. It’s why people can’t get rid of accents even though they speak the language fluently.
Their brain didn’t develop the capacity to distinguish phonemes (aka the ability to distinguish distinct sounds in a language think R and L for Asians and W and G for Spanish speakers). For example, Kissinger came to the U.S. when he was 15 and his brother was 14. He has a heavy German accent and his bro doesn’t.
